Specifications

The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X is a well-balanced eight-core Zen 5 processor built for mainstream gaming and productivity systems. It delivers strong per-core performance at a modest 65W default TDP, which keeps thermals and cooling requirements manageable.

For a general-purpose build — gaming, office work, photo and video editing, software development — the 9700X hits the sweet spot between performance and power draw without pushing you toward an expensive cooling solution.

Why choose this chip

  • Efficient by design — 65W default TDP means lower temperatures and less demanding cooling
  • Boost to 5.5 GHz — strong single-threaded performance for games and everyday applications
  • 8 Zen 5 cores — comfortable headroom for multitasking, editing and development work
  • Fully unlocked — overclocking and Precision Boost Overdrive supported, with a 105W cTDP mode available
  • Modern platform — AM5 with PCIe 5.0 and DDR5

Choosing between this and the 9800X3D

If gaming frame rates are your priority, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and its 3D V-Cache will pull ahead in CPU-bound titles. If you want strong all-round performance at lower power draw and cost, the 9700X is the more sensible choice.

What you need

An AM5 motherboard (600 or 800 series chipset), DDR5 memory, and a CPU cooler. A discrete graphics card is recommended for gaming.

Cooler not included.
